Like many species of invertebrates, leeches have a set of ocelli in place or normal eyes. They are a group of light-sensitive creatures, and the giant leeches tend to react to changes in light with sudden bright light stunning them for a few minutes. In the wetlands known as The Morass of Kirkgor, the giant leeches are ranging from one to two feet in length and are known for a variety of magical ingredients. They hide in the black waters of the swamp deep in the thick mud waiting to strike upon any warm-blooded creatures to pass them by.
Solitary feeding by nature, they have been known to swarm larger prey in swarms from a few dozen to the hundreds. Thus, providing ample opportunity for my apprentices to find them collect a portion of their mucus, to be broken down into a viable substance for use in potions or spell use. Corked and sealed in a vial, to preserve its potency. Sufficient for all magical potions, magical studies, and spell components.
